Support KIPP Ascend
At KIPP, our students are taught the KIPP credo which includes the following:
If a teammate needs help, we give.
If we need help, we ask.
KIPP Ascend Charter School is asking for your help. We welcome volunteers to come and engage in the mission of the school: to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond. Volunteers are a critical part of the KIPP Team + Family, as they provide the enrichment needed to broaden students’ understanding of areas of study and potential career paths.
Community School
We welcome and seek help from friends to offer more time in school, field lessons, and instruction that sets KIPP apart. Volunteers are the core of our cultural enrichment program, so if you have a talent, hobby, or interest, we invite you to share it with our students during Saturday School or End-of-School-Day sessions. Through collaboration with partners like Chicago Cares, Deloitte, and Schweitzer Fellows, current Saturday School offerings include the following: African drumming, hip-hop, ArtSmart, Boys/Girls Health, Cultural Cooking, Whiz Kids, and Architecture.
Single-day events, such as the Deloitte Field day, which creates a day of fun carnival games for the students’ last day of school, are also welcomed from corporate and community group partners.
Governing Board and Junior Board
KIPP Ascend Charter School is aggressively seeking new Board members from diverse backgrounds to join in managing school operations through the Governing Board or our newly-created Junior Board.
We are seeking a diverse group of community leaders with a variety of expertise to join our school boards. Expertise in areas of law, business, banking, philanthropy, real estate, fundraising, and education is especially desirable. While there is no such thing as an "ideal candidate," an excellent candidate typically possesses the following qualities or characteristics:
- Commitment to school mission & vision
- Successful experience on other boards
- Ability to problem-solve
- Successful experience with personnel management
- Effective oral and written communicator
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Our KIPP to College program is currently seeking mentors to join in planned team and activities for the school year. Our Events Committee is currently seeking volunteers to host KIPP’s annual awards gala. Each fall and spring, we need Career Day participants who can share with students about what it means to go to college and the choices that are available as a result. If you have skills you’d like to donate, or simply time that you can spare, we invite you to come and lend a hand to help the hardest working kids in Chicago!
